Patriarchy in India conquers to a large extent. While henious crimes against women are common in our nation, we lost sight of men who suffer here. Though differently, they have their own battles to fight.
Struggles of Indian Men
“Masculinity and Feminism is not a zero-sum game.”
I encountered a few struggles experiencing by Indian Men.
They are harmful. Many assume Men are harmful and intended for doing something wrong when they come and talk to women. However, they're also victims in the hands of noxious women. They're slapped and tortured by the people for some idiotic reasons or for no reason at all.
Pressure. People think Men are obliged to earning well, saving and, settling down financially. They have to be breadwinners in the family. They're even more stressed for not craving for what people asked to do.
Harassment. Men too have a problem with physical/mental abuse. They're also get offended, but they're not allowed to speak up because they might be labelled as weak, fake, dramebaaz. Also, no one will be attentive to share their feelings with them.
Domestic violence. Men experienced 10.5% of violence in the hands of their wives/partners in the past year. It’s a lot harder for them to come out with it without being discouraged or labelled as being less of a man. Furthur, there's also rising cases of false accusations on dowry/rapes against some men.
Fake relationships. Men can fake a relationship, so can women. I suppose that Women who do a fake relationship are often manipulative or have a twisted mind in the subject of love. They turn the relationships as a key to getting physical/emotional needs.
Unmanly. A man is expected to be dominant in the family. He is allowed to be the provider of comfort and security. He should take the major decisions, he should go out for work and if he believes in gender equality, he's stamped as Unmanly by the people.
Don't show your emotions. "Stop crying like a girl". Yeah, you're right, we heard this phrase many times. People force them to move on without dealing with people, situations leading to belittling them.
Dear Men
“Dear Men, we know it's difficult and we hope to be free from it.”
Let’s not teach our next generations about how to be more masculine or feminine, but how to be compassionate, good human beings. Please leave a comment, Thanks! 😊
