Namaste.

Women constitute almost 50% of the world’s population but India has shown disproportionate sex ratio whereby female’s population has been comparatively lower than males. As far as their social status is concerned, they are not treated as equal to men in many areas.

As India progresses economically, there are calls for the country to pay more attention to social and human development, including women empowerment.

Gender equality means that men and women have equal power and equal opportunities for financial independence, education, and personal development. Gender issues are not focused on women alone, but on the relationship between men and women in society. Women's empowerment is a critical aspect of achieving gender equality. It includes nurturing a woman's sense of self-worth, her power of decision-making, her access to opportunities and resources, her power and control over her own life inside and outside the household, and her ability to effect change.

Women’s key role in society has ensured nations’ stability, progress, and development throughout history. They worked as army, nurses, plane mechanics, truck drivers, and shipbuilders to free up men for the fight during World War II. Fast forward to now, and women continue to prosper in every field imaginable.

Gender segregation is a norm in the labor market. Some sectors are solely dominated by men, while women dominate others. Here, we will take a look at the jobs dominated by women.

"I'm a working woman. I take care of a home. I hold down a job."

According to 2020 Economic Survey statistics: 60 percent of women in India in the productive age bracket of 15-59 years are engaged in full-time housework, that is nearly 397 million people. At extremely low levels of education and income, women have no option but to join the workforce and support their households. Despite, many women agreed on the fact that staying at home, doing the things they like, and watching their kids grow brought them happiness rather than a outside job. It allows them to create memories and have mental peace in the company of the ones they love and doing things they love.

"Nurses are the hospitality of hospital."

Nursing has been historically became the women's field. This role includes caring for patients, treating them under supervision of physicians, and advising that patients aftercare. Now most of the male nurses are demanding the parity in training and employment. According to 2021 World Health Organization's Global Health Workforce Statistics (OECD), India at present has 1.7 nurses and midwives per 1000 population. The estimated ratio of male and female nurses is 20:80, that is clearly leaned towards the women. Right from nurses to expert physicians, from baby care providers to old age caretakers the percentage of women workers is very high as compared to men and become women Ddominated industries.

"Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions."

Education is a niche field for women. Right from teaching to becoming pioneers of eucation system solutions and consulting, the graph expanded for women. According to World bank collection of development indicators 2021, primary education teachers (%female) in India is reported at 55.52%. Women also find themselves with higher roles in the education system too, with many being principals and superintendents, demonstrating a clear and less obstructive career path to the top.

"Yes, women farm. Thanks for asking."

Employment in agriculture, female (% of female employment) (modeled ILO estimate) in India was reported at 53.6 % in 2020, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources. Economic Survey 2017-18 says that with growing rural to urban migration by men, there is ‘feminisation’ of agriculture sector, with increasing number of women in multiple roles as cultivators, entrepreneurs, and labourers.

"Only the strongest women become social workers."

When we try to find an answer for Social Welfare being a woman-dominated sector, the basic reason, we think is the caring nature of women and become women dominated industries. Social Welfare is nothing but caring about people from deprived backgrounds, social and economic conditions. The social sector can be a really rewarding area of work, as helping others and making a difference in the local community can be really uplifting. For a lot of female workers, it gives them purpose and immense satisfaction.

Reinforcing the idea that the glass ceiling is still very much in place, men continue to dominate senior management positions such as CEO, senior officials and legislators. As we are trying to close the gender gap, biased and unequal salaries, almost all sectors are encouraging women to work freely with their interests. New opportunities, new responsibilities, and new horizons are opening for women. And then we'll say,

Louder, louder than a lion, cause I'm a champion, and you're gonna hear me ROARRRRRR!!!

Happy Reading!
